Default Fix Servers?

What is the deal with periodic lag of random players in this game? It's not even the entire team that is lagging, just a few people. It's not a constant lag 24/7 but periodic spirts of lag.

Anet fix please?

Random lag with random people sounds like their own problem.

If your whole group had the same problem it was probably GW's problem.

I would normally agree except my vent and browser had perfectly fine ping.

It could be anything from the users computer and software, to their modem, their ISP, or connections between users ISP and Anet servers. The internet is a big place, with lots of cables strung between countries and across continents.

But you said random people. Your vent and browser having a good ping have nothing to do with John Paul who lives 300 miles away.

If my other internet related programs are working at an efficient rate, chances are the issue is Anet related. Did that clear it up for you bud?

Not necessarily true.

There are three places a lag issue can generally be:
* With your ISP
* With the GW servers
* Somewhere inbetween.

The first is your problem, the second is ANets, and the third is a headache for everyone involved.

As the servers you are connected to for other applications are located different to GW's servers, the path to those servers may not contain the problematic node on the way to the GW servers.

Unless you actually run Ping Plotter or something similar to track down where the problem is coming from then you don't know, and you shouldn't jump to unfounded conclusions.

I get perfect ping in CoD4, my browser loads up quick, itunes downloads fast, etc.

It's absolutely Anet's servers.

Exactly. If people knew how the Internet is built, by definition of it you can't blame a particular node unless you've got confirmed ping routes and times from several players in different geographical locations. The net provides a "best effort" quality of service, meaning you'll regularly get routes with high pings because there's absolutely no guarantee whatsoever (and your network packets do not necessarily follow the same route), until we move to a kind of Internet2.

And server load is also unpredictable, and tbh for a f2p game you don't get the top server ISPs (Anet buy this service from a set of companies accross the world). I found I more rarely get now the 50ms pings I used to get, but it may be because I'm switching quite often between AD and ED. And I'm still getting good 200ms pings.

The problem has more than one cause. Trying to pin it on one thing absolutely isn't necessarily correct. For you, it might be ANet. For someone else it might be their ISP. The list goes on and on.

I play on two different connections, the one which i use during the week has been having these lag spikes almost like im about to drop connection and i know a couple of other people ingame with similar problems.

My other connection is fine (aside from the 150~ average ping which guildwars is famous for).

I don't mind too much since i dont play anything other than PvE and RA during the week but if it starts on my other connection i wont be happy.

Nope, that's the problem. Look at the lag threads posted in here in the last few months/weeks. Location is one of the main commonalities.

I know. Location is still one of the commonalities though. Not everyone fits in that category, but a lot of people do. That's why it's called a commonality.

Like me. No problems here. Had a total of 3 disconnects in my entire GW 'career' so far, no lag.

This has been discussed over and over: it's usually a conflict between certain ISPs and Anet's servers, but it doesn't go for everyone.

And no, a good ping on vent/porndownload 2.0/ whatever does NOT mean it's Anet's servers.

Ok, I never got disconnected because of lag before.
But yesterday we where getting ready to go to underworld and we where in our Guild Hall. I got disconnected 3 times as well as 2 other guildies. We where still at ventrilo so I know it was not my connection.

All 3 of us disconnecting at the same time is no coincidence. I got killed 3 times because of lag while we where in UW. That has never happened to me.

I did not notice which server I was connected to, but I know the lag came from GW servers. All the team experienced random 1 to 2 seconds spikes while in UW last night.

By the way, our team location where :
United States
Argentina
Spain
Mexico
